Did you know today is the international day of older persons? Let’s take a moment to congratulate the older persons in this special day.
In Myanmar society, people with 60 years of age or above are regarded as older persons and it’s seen as polite for younger people to give respect to them. The total number of older persons in Myanmar is 5,443,000 in total according to a report by ‘Help Age International’. Among the older persons, some of them have relatives or family members to take care of them while some don’t. For older persons with no one to look after them, their only solution is to go to ‘home for elderly persons’. The first person who established a place for elderly in Myanmar is Daw Oo Zune. Since then, a number of homes for elderly persons have been growing in Myanmar.
