KT Care Foundation provides support to improve the quality of life of individuals affected by Cleft Palate and Hare Lips.
Cleft deformities affect an average 1 out of 800 to 1,000 babies in Myanmar. This congenital birth defect may be caused by several factors, amongst which is inadequate maternal diet during pregnancy.
One surgical procedure dramatically changes the life of an individual with this condition, allowing them to eat better, and to be free of the shame of going to school and socializing with others.
Because of the stigma and difficulties created by this condition and due to the gaps in local health service coverage, KT Care developed the Cleft Lip and Palate Programme by joining with “New Look, New Life” in 2012. The organization was founded by surgeons who continue to give their time and services to these patients, free of charge. Within this partnership, KT Care organizes the logistics and covers the related expenses.
Since its inception, the Cleft Lip and Palate Programme has provided over 403 life changing operations to both children and adults in Myanmar.
