The major achievement of the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is the reduction of children’s mortality. In a recent tweet, Bill Gates points to the chart showing how the number of children’s deaths was cut in half, names it “the most beautiful chart in the world”. Since 1990, 122 million children’s lives have been saved through the public health programs by the foundation.
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a private foundation founded by Billand Melinda Gates in 1997, which is to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty.
“Reducing childhood mortality is the heart of the work for us,” Gates said in the annual letter. “Virtually all advances in society — nutrition, education, access to contraceptives, gender equity, economic growth — show up as gains in the childhood mortality chart, and every gain in this chart shows up in gains for society.”The biggest reason for the reduction in children’s mortality the Gates attributes to vaccines, which now cover about 86% of the global population.
According to the World Health Organization, 5.9 million children under the age of five died in 2015 due to conditions that could have been prevented or treated.
